Leadership for LEARNING-FOCUSED Schools provides schools and districts with research-based and evidence-based instructional strategies and practices that are delivered through the LEARNING-FOCUSED strategies framework, monitored by administrators at all levels, and sustained with a monitoring system that is aligned with state assessments.

Description:

Leadership for Learning-Focused Schools provides a monitoring continuum for all leadership personnel.  This workshop focuses on research-based and evidence-based practices to teach standards.  It supports leadership in determining what to look for during instruction to ensure that instruction supports learning and connects to a comprehensive literacy plan that includes vocabulary and writing to raise achievement.   An assessment and acceleration model is provided which is designed to catch up below grade level students and meet the needs of all students. Participants plan their implementation of Learning-Focused Strategies.

Workshop Agenda

  1. Research-based and evidence-based strategies

    • Essential Question:  What do research-based and evidenced-based practices mean?

    • Participants will learn what research-based and evidence-based practices mean.

  2. Standards Driven Curriculum

    • Essential Question: How do you know that the curriculum that students need to master, in order for schools to meet state requirements, are in place in your school?

    • Participants will learn how to identify what curriculum students need to master in order for schools to meet state requirements and to what extent this curriculum is in place in your school.

  3. Exemplary Practices

    • Essential Question: Where are exemplary practices, which are highly associated with improved student achievement, in place in your school?

    • Participants will learn those exemplary strategies that are highly associated with improved student achievement and will then identify where those practices are being implemented in their schools.

  4. Learning-Focused Support

    • Essential Question: How can Learning-Focused support schools if essential curriculum and exemplary practices are not in place?

    • Participants will learn how to diagnose their school’s curriculum and exemplary practices to determine what to do next.

  • Identify research-based and evidenced-based practices
  • Identify research-based and evidence-based instruction

  • Monitor plan and refine as needed

Workshop Standards

Participants will:

  • Analyze their school in order to identify those practices that are working and where weaknesses are occurring.  
  • Create a plan in order to move students to performing on or above grade level using research-based and evidence-based practices.
